Willow Wind RV Park
Hurricane, UT

Today we took a short drive south on I-15 about 98 miles to Willow Wind RV Park in Hurricane (pronounced Hurr-i-cun), UT. We enjoyed our stay in Beaver and it was a good spot to visit Capital Reef and Bryce Canyon from. I was even able to go up into the mountains just to the east and do some lake, fly fishing.

Willow Wind is a very nice park with paved roads and concrete sites (yah, no gravel).

Up the street....

Down the street....

They have nice log style bath houses....

And even Tee-Pees.....

They offer sites that are either  "shade friendly" or "satellite friendly". Since the temps are in the upper 90s we chose the "shade friendly" site.

Jenny, Marc, Sydney, and Evan are driving over from San Diego and will be camping here over the Labor Day weekend. They will be staying in a tent on this site.

Pretty nice spot to pitch a tent....

The plan is for all of us to visit Zion National Park which is just 30 minutes to the east. We will be checking out all the restaurants, shops, and stores that Hurricane has to offer....which is a lot more than Beaver. And if we want, St George is just 25 minutes to the west and that is the "big" town in this area.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Today we drove over to Bryce Canyon. It was 72 miles and took about 1 1/2 hrs. The park is southeast from Beaver across the mountains and it is a scenic drive going through some pretty, quaint little towns like Panguitch and Bryce City.

This park is another must see park with its beautiful and unique rock formations (called Hoodoos). The formations are unlike anything we had ever seen (and we've seen a lot of canyons and mountains). In the one day trip I took over 60 photos and 5 videos and I think they are all beautiful. I did my best to show you pictures from each area of the park.

Yep, there are people hiking down there.....

Inspiration Point was my favorite with its panoramic views from a very high point. I had to hike about a 1/4 mile straight up to get to the point. The only area we didn't get to was Bryce Point. They had that area closed off to the public for some construction work.

We spent the better part of a day driving to each of the pull offs and overlooks and there are many trails for the younger crowd, even some that take you down into the canyons. As you can tell from the pictures we had rain threatening us most of the day and the Rangers even stopped letting people hike down into the canyons for a period of time due to weather.

Check off another beautiful, Utah, National Park.....if you get the chance be sure to come see this one.

Capital Reef National Park

We decided to say put in Beaver for 2 weeks and drive the CRV over to Capital Reef (144 miles) and spend the night. From Beaver we took I-15 north to I-70 east to SH 24. It was an easy drive that took about 2 hours.

Some of the rock formations have a name.... this one is Chimney Rock

This one is The Castle....

Here is a selfie at the Visitor Center with The Castle in the background....

This is Hickman Bridge. It's a natural bridge that I had to hike 1 1/2 miles in 90 degree heat to see.

Here is my "proof of life" selfie at Hickman Bridge....

We stayed the night at the Capital Reef Resort. We had a very nice room with a beautiful view.

Capital Reef is a beautiful park with  amazing and colorful rock formations. It is an easy park to visit as you drive the canyons and get out to take pictures at designated pull offs. If you're adventurous there are plenty of hiking trails. We took over 40 pictures and 3 or 4 videos. It was very difficult to decide which ones to post as they are all amazing. This was definitely a "must see" National Park.
