Here are some pictures from our trip to Lake Powell. First some shots of the RV park.
The RV park, Marina, and Boat Rental facilities are all very close to each other which made logistics easy. We spent the first of two weeks here basically prepping for our week trip on the houseboat. I think we went grocery shopping at Walmart five days in a row.....food for 11 people, whew....
And finally here are the pics from that fantastic (and hair raising) boat trip.
59 foot houseboat that sleeps 12.....
Julie brought her 23 foot speed boat from Denver....
Steven trying to catch a big fish that was mocking him by swimming close to the boat...
Jenny and Marc surprised everyone when they showed up with two new jet skis that they brought from San Diego. Here is a shot of Jenny taking Marilyn on her first jet ski ride.....
All sorts of toys.....
Of course Lake Powell is famous for its beautiful rock canyons...
The hair raising part happened the first day. We got a 10 minute review of how everything works and then they send you on your way. None of us had driven a big houseboat and to make matters worst we had 45 mph winds with 5 foot swells that first day. We had the Rental place take the boat out of the marina and then I took over driving. Unfortunately, we had a very narrow strait to traverse that was about 75 yards wide. Halfway thru the winds spun us sideways and we got a prop buried in a sandbar. We pulled the engine up to get free and luckily got thru eventually. We made a beeline for the closest sandy beach and anchored the boat. There we stayed until it was time to head back 5 days later. That same afternoon a houseboat sunk a mile or so from our beach spot, so we all felt like we had done pretty well.
Needless to say we all had a great time and really enjoyed getting all the kids and grandkids together. This is a trip we will all remember for a long time.....
