Cherry Creek State Park
Aurora, CO

It's been a long 3 weeks in Colorado Springs and until these last few days we really didn't do much. Steven and I went fly fishing twice. We went into the mountains to Eleven Mile Canyon along the South Platt River.

Beautiful country......

I got skunked both trips but Steven hooked up 4 times and all four times the trout got off the hook before he could bring it in..... honestly, I witnessed two of them.

The river was flowing pretty fast and there was a lot of "stuff" in the water so I'm sure that was the reason for our lack of success.... that's my story and............

Back at the KOA park, Julie and Katy came to visit twice and Katy got her chance to try out the splash park.

About every 5 or 10 minutes the "Gold Mine" would explode and shoot water everywhere.....that scared Katy bad enough she wouldn't go down the slides....

The past few days we have been helping Steven fix up the house he just bought.(his first). So we've been ripping out carpet, painting, cleaning, and fixing things in a  2 day period so he could move in.

I have to say the place really came out great.... we finished on Monday, prepped the motor home for travel on Tuesday.

Today, we drove the hour and fifteen minutes back north to Cherry Creek State Park. This is the back and forth part of our trip that we don't like but the State Parks only allow you to stay for 2 weeks in a 45 day period.....so back and forth we go between Denver and Colorado Springs.

So we're back at Cherry Creek in site 21.

Another really nice pull through site with a picnic table, fire pit, trees, grass, paved roads, level concrete site.... OK, OK, I guess it is worth all the trouble.

We'll be here for one week (was supposed to be 2 but we stayed a week longer in the Springs so we could help Steven.... did I say it was great to be retired and make your own schedule???), and then we move over to Chatfield State Park in Littleton again..... then 2 weeks down in the Springs before heading south to Santa Fe, in time for the Albuquerque Balloon Festival.

Colorado Springs KOA
Fountain, CO

Today we packed up and left Chatfield State Park and drove south about 70 miles to the Colorado Springs KOA.

It was a cool and cloudy day which is just perfect for a road trip. This KOA is actually located in Fountain, CO which is basically a suburb to the south of Colorado Springs. We are very close to Fort Carson Army Base so there is a big military presence in the area.

This is your typical KOA campground but they have added some nice amenities.

Like this Splash Park.......

Our granddaughter Katy is going to love this place...

A café that serves breakfast and dinner.....

And a playground and cabins. They also have daily activities scheduled like ceramics classes, crafts, T-shirt painting, wagon rides, movies, bubble parties, and a saloon that serves snow cones and popcorn.

We have a nice pull through site (gravel)...

Comes with a nice patio set and fire pit....

Up the street..

they should have spent a little less on the amenities and more on road maintenance.....

lots of room....

We'll be here for 18 days. Maybe a few days longer. Steven is buying a house here and is expecting to close later this month, so we may extend our stay and help get his place ready for move-in.

Zac Brown Concert
Coors Field - Denver

Today Marilyn and I took Julie to the Zac Brown concert at Coors Field. Zac Brown, specifically his song Free, has been our motto for our Rv'ing adventure. It was a cloudy day which really helped keep the temps cool but the threat of rain gave us some concern. It only sprinkled a couple of times and turned out to be a great night.

We had great seats.....

The crowd on the ground had a great time....

I think they played every hit song we knew but the surprise was all the songs from other artists they performed, like Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", John Denver's "Rocky Mountain High", and several long hard rock sessions where they did songs by various groups like The Alman Brothers Band, Nirvana, and others. I didn't expect all the hard rock but they were amazing.

Here are a few brief video clips from the concert....

Hopefully the video clips uploaded and you can see and hear what a great band they are. Obviously, we had a great time and forged another life-long memory.

Chatfield State Park
Littleton, CO

The last 2 weeks have flown by and we really haven't done anything except visit with family and try out the restaurants we used to love to go to.

With our 2 week allotment for Cherry Creek expired (State Park rules) today we drove 24 miles to the southwest side of Denver. Chatfield State Park is another great Colorado State Park, and our favorite in the Denver Area.

The park is very well maintained and has great pull through sites with lots of room..... and a great view. Most sites have some trees, and all have a table and fire ring.

At Chatfield you get a great view of the foothills...

And of course the lake is very close....

The marina.....

and boat ramp and swim beach area....

We'll be here for the 2 week limit and then we'll move down to Colorado Springs. Again, we have no plans other than visiting family.....although next Saturday we do have tickets for the Zac Brown concert at Coors Field...that should be a lot of fun.... stay tuned.
